Description
In the summer of 2009, twenty-three-year-old Pere Guerra, a brilliant student with a passion for computers and technology, was studying engineering at Harvard during his year of study abroad. Back home in Spain, his brother Esteve, who was four years older, and preferred playing tennis and talking soccer to video games, was busy running the brothers’ entrepreneurial venture. Together with their partners Joatham Grange and Mateu Nierga, Pere and Esteve were the impossibly young owners of Enerside, a multimillion-euro photovoltaic start-up in the midst of Spain’s renewable energy craze. Thanks to the brothers’ business acumen and very favorable government subsidies, the company was growing fast and had just secured a massive contract: a 9.4-million euro solar panel installation on the rooftops of a beer storage facility owned by Damm, Barcelona’s leading brewery. This included an extension option that could bring the contract’s total value to 50 million euros.
