It has become a tradition to celebrate World Case Teaching Day on February 5 with the founder of this event, The Case Center. As part of the celebration and to motivate the use of the case studies, we share some photos from our hybrid classes. We see our faculty with their students who are having a learning experience both in-person and online.
This year continues to be a challenge among other areas, also for education. For this reason, we want to thank and congratulate all of you who are involved in education and especially in the case methodology for your efforts and for continuing to adapt the face-to-face classes to the new circumstances.
At IE University we have faced these challenges by developing the Liquid Learning model, a hybrid format that provides students flexibility and allows them to receive a high-quality education face-to-face or online. Thanks to this methodology, they have a learning experience with peers and professors in the classrooms, or they can also decide if they prefer to connect online and enjoy the same experience with their professors and classmates simultaneously. Within this hybrid model, the use of case studies and other educational materials such as interactive tutorials, technical notes and simulators is still very important. During the past year, IE learning materials have been used more than 370,000 times within our institution.
These are some opinions of our students about the case methodology and its impact:
‘’Learning by examples helps me leave the field of theories abstraction and apply them to real or simulated cases. To me, it seems to be more compelling than merely reading how to deal with a specific situation. This method allows me to learn from classmates (or co-workers) and teaches me how to take my position and be convincing when expressing my opinion’’.
Marta Trane.
‘’During my studies at IE Business School, attending the Master in Management, I had the great chance to approach a very interesting Case Study “Porsche: Beyond the limits of Luxury?”, developed by the Competitive Strategy Professor David Millan Planelles. What I appreciated and I found useful has been the multimedia approach, in which I had the opportunity to apply what I have learned to a real best practice’’.
Eleonora Manzo.
At IE Publishing we continuously supported the teaching community by redesigning, updating and adapting the educational materials in order to continue using the case studies in classes of any format. We have also published more than 200 new and updated learning materials in 2020. The vast majority of our learning materials are available in English and Spanish on both our online catalog and The Case Centre and cover a wide range of business- and management-education topics.
Happy #WorldCaseTeachingDay!
