IE Case Mosabi: Gathering Forces for Social Change Wins EFMD Case Writing Competition 2020 in the category of Responsible Business

Rachida Justo, Professor of Entrepreneurial Management & Social Enterprise and Director of Entrepreneurship Department at IE University, along with three former IE University students: Caroline Tilden, Krystyna Liakh and Mona Mueller, have won the prestigious case writing award from the EFMD for their case Mosabi: Gathering Forces for Social Change in the category of Responsible Business.

Mosabi is an application-based solution that addresses the lack of financial literacy and financial inclusion for informal sector entrepreneurs in Africa. By providing an alternative to traditional credit-scoring through education, Mosabi seeks to empower its users in the long-term by generating a multiplier effect on their lives. Mosabi has been designed to be economically sustainable as it also reduces the high cost of access to financial service providers (FSPs) for those without banking services. The case, among other things, deals with topics such as social entrepreneurship, human resource management to maintain the hybrid mission of a social company and the challenges related to talent management. It also addresses the issues related to sustainability and analyzes how to scale this type of company and measure its social impact.

We are proud to facilitate the authors on this important and prestigious achievement, as well as congratulate the entire IE community for this recognition of the quality of our learning materials. In addition, we would like to thank Professor Rachida Justo for her contribution to the case method, particularly for the development of cases related to innovation and social impact.

We want to highlight that, in addition to this recent EFMD award, Rachida Justo has other prestigious awards such as the Extraordinary Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis, from the UAM, the Best Women's Entrepreneurship Paper Award, from the Academy of Management Conference and the Best Case award from IE University.

In the words of Professor Rachida Justo, “It is a great honor to be recognized by EFMD. We hope that our case will be useful for educators interested in how social enterprise can sustain and/or reinforce their hybridity through a human resources policy, an issue that is hardly discussed in courses on social entrepreneurship. Many thanks to the Mosabi team for sharing their experiences with us!”
