IE University Publishing's immersive simulation on climate change recognized for its innovation and impact
For three years, the Responsible Business Education Awards, powered by Financial Times, have recognized educational innovation and commitment to social responsibility among business schools.
Under this premise, our educational material Eye in the Storm: Your Role in Climate Change Action has been honored with this prestigious award.
"Eye in the Storm" offers an immersive learning experience on climate change. The material consists of three parts: first, through virtual reality, it places the student inside a hurricane, where they can first-hand experience the potential consequences of climate change; then, they engage in a multimedia role-playing game, where they must take on the role of one of the five key actors in climate action. Both sections serve to prepare the students for a classroom debate, where they must negotiate and make decisions on how to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.
With a practical and engaging approach, this educational material succeeds in creating an emotional connection with the problem, so that participants can empathize with those who suffer from the effects of climate change and understand the need for various stakeholders to collaborate to mitigate these effects.
This immersive learning experience presents realistic challenges and complex scenarios that not only educate about the repercussions of climate change but also promote critical thinking and ethical decision-making.
This simulator has been developed by IE University Publishing in collaboration with two sustainability experts, whom we congratulate on this distinction and thank for their efforts in integrating ecology into education: Isabela del Alcázar (Global Head of Sustainability at IE University) and Gonzalo Delacámara (Director of the IE Centre of Water & Climate Adaptation resources). Both have extensive international experience and are part of IE University's Sustainability Office, a cross-cutting unit within the institution that promotes new products, programs, and initiatives aimed at improving the environment and society.
This recognition from the Financial Times not only celebrates the quality of the educational content but also its contribution to the development of future business leaders with an ethical conscience and a deep understanding of the importance of sustainability. The jury defines it as an innovative and impactful project and highlights the meaningful use of virtual reality, demonstrating that the integration of new technologies with urgent issues (such as climate change) is not only possible but also beneficial.
In summary, the first prize in the Financial Times Responsible Business Education Awards is a well-deserved recognition for IE University Publishing's simulation, "Eye in the Storm", which is available in English and Spanish in our online catalog, along with the rest of our educational materials.
