The student will have the opportunity to follow the story of Manuel Rodriguez, a daring entrepreneur. They will be able to follow the companies and generation´s world trip and understand the reasoning behind his actions.
Using Manuel Rodríguez´s case, students will have the opportunity to put themselves in the position of a serial entrepreneur, constructing their own journey alongside Manuel Rodríguez Guitars. Their decisions and experiences along the multimedia case will get stored digitally, in order to have an open discussion in class.
Decision-making, drag and drop, and other interactive activities make up the learner journey; these activities are based on tangible entrepreneurial frameworks and business models.Academic Area:Entrepreneurship
Sofía López - Servicios Ambientales, S.L. GE1-146-I
Sofia Lopez is a Spanish professional who founded “Servicios Ambientales” - an environmental services agency – twice. First in 2012, after her previous employer went bankrupt because of bad management and she lost her job. Sofia convinced four former colleagues to start their own company and brought a former client as a financial partner on board. Using her positive can-do attitude and convincing communication, she defended the attempt of her financial partner to fire her. Instead, she ousted him with the help of her partners. This made it necessary to start her company a second time in 2015. Sofia held on to her clear vision to deliver quality work. She addressed late payments with partial invoicing to manage cash flow. In late 2019, Sofia was still heading “Servicios Ambientales” which now had 20 employees and offered its services across Spain and other EU countries.

PLAYGIGA: THE GROWTH PAINS OF A PIONEER IN CLOUD GAM … GE1-144-I
In September 2016, Javier Polo, a senior executive from the Telco sector, was appointed as CEO of PlayGiga, a technology start-up. The company had spent three years successfully developing a technology to enable users to play Videogames from the cloud, without needing a gaming console (e.g. PlayStation, Xbox) or an expensive gaming PC. However, no significant sales had materialized until now. After three months in the position, the CEO needed to prove the market acceptance for the new service. Important decisions had to be taken about the value proposition, which customer segment to focus on and about the go-to-market strategy; in particular, if a direct-to-consumer commercialization would be better than selling the service through Telecom and Media companies.
The case is intended to be taught in the initial modules of an entrepreneurship course for Undergraduates, MBA students or Executive MBAs. How to make an effective contribution to a closely-knit board run by a longtime and rigid chair, and how to do so as the only woman? This is the predicament this fictional case study presents Jane Pruitt, a 54-year-old CFO coming in from another company under shareholder pressure. She is striving to make a much-needed impact on a privately-held formerly family-run metalworking machinery and equipment manufacturer overseen by five male board members (and financially interconnected friends) all about 70 years of age.
Jane begins to suspect that the intellectual, generational and gender diversity she was hired to provide was brought on board only for public show.
The case raises important questions about the value of diversity in a team environment and will engage any student who has been an outsider on an insular, club-like team.
This case presents several challenges that are relevant for organizations today. First, it explores a newcomer’s perspective on being an outsider in an insider-dominated setting. Second, the case presents a number of common board/team practices that undercut effectiveness. Finally, it gives students the opportunity to think and talk about board diversity, its merits and challenges, and possible paths forward to success.

The case describes some strategic, marketing and organizational challenges faced by Mobike during the path of further expansion and growth. China, as an emerging and fast-expanding market, has its unique features. Mobike, as a successful Chinese startup, was able to survive a number of rounds of fundraising and stood at a crossroad, leading to different future growth paths.
The company has its doubts about the future. The point is not how to grow fast, but how to grow and stay in the market longer. The founder Hu Weiwei and CEO Davis Wang were concerned about the strategy for the future. The question was: should Mobike enter the deeper level of second- and third-tier cities in China, or should it pursue its global market penetration?
The case illustrates the challenges presented by business expansion. It highlights the importance of strategic tools, namely business model canvas, scenario planning and market analysis, to reevaluate current business operations, clarify future possibilities and mitigate business risks.

Donostia-San Sebastían: A City in Search of Talent a … GE1-142-I
The case describes the story of a city, Donostia-San Sebastián, which has the political and institutional goal to become a city of innovation and entrepreneurship. To achieve this, there are different dilemmas related to the size of the city, the shortage of talent in certain specialties, cannibalization of talent, internationally competitive salaries and the effects of the brain drain. In this case study, we meet a local public institution, Fomento San Sebastián (FSS), which acts as the instrument of the city to promote an intelligent, sustainable and inclusive local economic development. FSS plays a fundamental role within the local ecosystem of innovation and takes the lead to endow talent with human capital in the city.
Through the context of the city of Donostia-San Sebastián and the different programs and decisions taken by FSS, the student will be able to understand the innovation ecosystem and to analyze how talent and human capital develops in a city.

The internationalization conundrum of S&H DE1-222-I
Joe and Alex, father and son and president and CEO of a family-owned business called Steel & Heavy (S&H) had to make a key strategic decision. They needed to set up a new manufacturing subsidiary near an efficient port and narrowed their choices down to a port in Spain or one in China. Joe was in favor of China (Shanghai) because of its size, growth and access to the Asian markets. The Shanghai port was also very large and efficient and labor costs were cheaper than in Europe. But, it was quite far from the headquarters. Alex preferred Spain because of the smaller geographical and cultural distances from the headquarters in Italy, the large metal production cluster already present there and the low cost of coordinating with Italy. Plus, the port in Gijón is the sixth largest in Spain and one of the most modern in terms of infrastructure. However, it was still small compared to the port in Shanghai and the final markets were still far from Gijón. Although Joe owned the majority of S&H’s shares, he did not want to impose a decision on his son and family. When pondering the decision, Joe decided to call T+P, S&H’s partner. T+P’s CEO knew that they would also need to create their own new subsidiary because the international venture was a joint decision. The case wraps up with Alex and Joe calling the CEO to tell him their arguments but does not reveal what the final decision was.Academic Area:Strategy

This will be presented through Maria and her journey through the different digital marketing channels while looking for a hotel in India.
The example will be the more visually appealing part of the multimedia, presented through pictures and videos. At the end of the technical note, there will be an interactive exercise that the students can do as a series of quizzes where they can earn badges that display everything they have learned throughout the material.
