IKEA: Comunicación Global de Marca MK1-163-M
IKEA: Global Brand Communication transports students from the classroom straight into the IKEA showroom. This highly interactive multimedia case details a brief history of IKEA and focuses on the communication strategy used by the brand in 2014, with an emphasis on IKEA Ibérica and its decisions in the Spanish consumer market.
The IKEA case is separated into 4 sections, each section being a specific area of an IKEA showroom (living room, kitchen, bedroom, and cash registers). In each room learners obtain information, watch videos and take part in activities by clicking on pieces of interactive furniture. In the first room, the living room, students get to know IKEA as a brand, their history, values and performance. Next is the kitchen, where participants will learn about IKEA’s relationship with consumers around the world. This section includes interviews with IKEA customers from various countries, as well as an interactive Brand Sentiment Matrix. Later on in the bedroom, students have a more intimate view of IKEA’s relationship with the Spanish consumer market. Here students can see relevant statistics and data of IKEA Ibérica both from public sources and exclusively from IKEA Ibérica themselves. Some of the most valuable material in this case can be found here, with exclusive interviews from IKEA Ibérica’s Marketing Director as well as their publicity agency McCann. Finally, students can review the takeaways from the case as they approach the registers and exit. Here they can see final thoughts from the professor and author of the case and are prompted to share their own insights via social media.

This multimedia case shows the complete process of brand creation, construction and management. Comprised of the steps that must be taken in the process, tools and strategies for communication, and the types of decisions that must be faced when managing a brand, students will learn a model that can later be used in other markets and sectors or with other products, as well as understand key factors of the creative process and the search for efficient solutions for communication-based business problems.
Various videos with people who actively participated in the creation of the Aquarius brand are included, such as Marcos de Quintos, Chief Marketing Officer for The Coca-Cola Company, and Miguel García, Creative Director of Sra. Rushmore. It also includes several graphs in which students can analyze market tendencies, competition in the sector, or the rise in non-carbonated beverages in the Spanish market. This data is available in an Excel spreadsheet which the student can download and use to carry out a study.
At the end of the case, several dilemmas which Aquarius faces are brought up, requiring the student to consider different strategies in order to resolve the future challenges Aquarius will be faced with.

This multimedia case has been developed as an interactive single-player simulation. It presents a real life situation of how to use market research in a business context; in the specific case of revenue growth through an increase in consumption. The case covers all the steps within market research; secondary data analysis, the actual design of the market research, and the development of the marketing plan. The case is closely based around a consumer goods giant, however the details of the company have been disguised.
Through an interactive interface students will review the market research methodologies, analyze key qualitative insights and quantitative data; and more importantly experience first-hand the decision making process behind market research. All this under the intriguing framework of developing the Fabric Softener category in a number of developing countries (Mexico, Russia, Poland, Hungary, and The Philippines, among others).
By working through this case study, students will learn about market research and at the same time have the opportunity to put into practice their knowledge. They will understand how to use the information obtained from the research to guide investment choices, both in terms of selection of countries as well as specific marketing and promotional activities.
This simulation can be used as part of a marketing fundamentals course or in a more specialized market research course. It can be used in master programs such as MBA, Master in Management, Master in Marketing Research or degree/university level courses with students that have some previous knowledge in marketing issues and marketing research tools and methodologies. This case describes how Modelez Iberia launched a corporate social responsibility project called the Harmony Commitment program after good sales results were obtained when it was carried out in France. The essence of the initiative was very closely related to the basis of its competitive advantage: the purchase of local raw materials (they had to be traceable); proven quality; and an emphasis on how the product is associated with sustainability and with maintaining balance in local biodiversity. It obligated farmers to sow a certain variety of wheat under specific conditions.
Although a campaign that was carried out showed that the initiative had a strong impact and was widely known, the brand manager was not satisfied with the results since it was complicated to measure the program’s commercial impact. He wondered if the concept of "better wheat, better biscuits" was enough as a basis for his sales campaign, thinking perhaps that it was better not to insist on the Harmony Commitment, seeing how complex it was to communicate. On the other hand, the project had had a very favorable acceptance among suppliers and company employees. With the program ceasing to be a novelty and with competitive pressure continuing to grow, the director of communications, corporate responsibility and public affairs must analyze the project’s evolution and decide what the next step should be.Academic Area:Strategy

Case A describes the origins and functioning of LEES in 2013. This is a program launched by José María Pérez González, a Spanish social entrepreneur, in order to address the problem of unemployment in Spain. Mirroring his former social enterprise (Fundación Santamaria La Real), for which he had been nominated Ashoka fellow in 2008, the LEES are a series of accelerators aimed at the unemployed. Designed to make up for the shortcoming of governmental employment policies, where unemployed are passive and isolated, the LEES program follows a holistic approach that fosters the proactiveness of individuals, leverages their skills and increases their visibility. It adopts a collaborative, supportive model, based on people and their capacity for teamwork. Participants in the accelerators organize their activities for an average of 6 months and are led by a coach. The program also strives to involve most actors of the society (municipalities and governmental institutions, private local firms, NGOs, individual volunteers, local training centers, co-working or entrepreneurship centers, universities, etc.) into shaping a global solution to unemployment. Although they are overseen by the LEES central office, accelerators function as quasi-autonomous entities and take up the roles of project management, maintenance, student selection and appointment of functional committees.Academic Area:Entrepreneurship

The case details events from April to June 2011 when an attack on the PlayStation Network (PSN) occurred. As a consequence of this incident the PSN systems shut down and personal information about users was stolen by hackers. Students will analyze the facts and then present action paths putting themselves in the role of a PlayStation team member in charge of the situation. They will also need to develop a business continuity plan for the future.
The case has been developed as a simple multimedia tool with the information organized according to the different stakeholders and through a timeline of the attack. In addition to texts and images each chapter has a number of links that students can visit to delve deeper into their analysis.

As a result of this incident, PSN’s servers went down and its users’ personal information was stolen. In 2010, the Australian Government announced a proposed overhaul of the taxation regime governing its large mining sector. The announcement came at a time when Australia’s mining industry was booming but concerns were also growing about how to distribute the gains of the mining boom between mining companies and the Australian people, and how to harness the success in the mining sector to promote long term sustainable economic growth across Australia. It was partly to address these concerns, as well as to improve the efficiency of the way in which mining was taxed, that the tax reform proposal was developed. At the heart of the proposal was a shift from a volume based royalty system of taxation to a system based on mining companies’ profits.
Focusing on Xstrata, the largest foreign mining company operating in Australia, the case charts how the mining industry acted collectively to conduct a wide-ranging and aggressive public and private lobbying campaign against the tax. Central to this campaign was the use of traditional and new media – newspapers, radio, television, internet, and social networking sites – to try and turn public opinion against the tax.
