This multimedia project aims to provide the student with an overview of the Internet of Things (IoT) so they can develop the ability to think critically and strategically about the opportunities and challenges that have emerge through the Internet of Things in our current digital era.
The student will be able to develop the knowledge base for IoT in order to understand courses related to emerging technologies, digital transformation and impact of technology in different corporate departments and industries.
The student is immersed in an interactive environment with 9 different sections, varying from virtual rooms of futuristic house to a Smart City and factory.They will always be guided and accompanied by Maria, the protagonist of our interactive case. The character of Maria contextualizes the learnings of the students and puts them into an entertaining and exciting story in the form of animations. This keeps the student engaged as well as teaching them in a learning-by-doing approach.
This tutorial will cover the definition of the Internet of Things and the importance in today’s world; how it is changing every industry (health, manufacturing, urban planning etc.); IoT partnerships and the IoT ecosystem necessary to make it reality, are some of the topics that will be covered. We will also examine how certain challenges such as privacy, cybersecurity, cultural, social or interoperability affect the way Internet of Things functions in today’s world.
Animations, videos, pop-ups and other interactive features make the student´s journey an entertaining and practical experience in order to develop a full understanding of the Internet of Things in a multimedia format program with an approximate duration of 60 minutes.Academic Area:Digital Technologies & Data Science

Students will learn about the origins of the Big Data concept its definition and characteristics the technologies used and when Big Data is suitable for business.
In addition students will have a chance at putting into practice their knowledge and to consider the latest trends surrounding this technology. All of this intertwined with elements that will keep students entertained throughout their learning. For example badges can be won along the way recognizing the knowledge acquired while helping to increase engagement with content.

The main objective of this material is for students to understand both the structure of the business intelligence system and what it is used for through interactive graphs and animations. It covers the topics of Data warehouses and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) within Business Intelligence systems.
Given the multidimensional component of OLAP systems it is a difficult concept for students to understand and these interactive graphs and animations help them to fully understand these concepts in an entertaining way. An interactive exercise which encourages students to explore alternative designs for a job cost system. After studying the current cost system of a company students will simulate alternative approaches and monitor the effects on costs and profits. The material is based around four exercises:

The social, political and economic evolution of Spain in the last decades has favored a fast process of adoption of MAS (Management Accounting Systems). However, this evolution has pushed it through a number of condensed growth phases for which other Western countries had considerable more time available.
Particularly, two different periods can be considered as relevant to understand the increasing importance of MAS. Firstly, the period from 1939-1975 and secondly, the period from 1975-1995. Up until the mid-1970s a sheltered economy and a dictatorship made MAS not relevant for management purposes in Spanish organizations. Instead of this, a strong social control combined with non-formal organizational mechanisms of control prevailed. However, in the last two decades, as a result of a decreasing profitability and the weakening of the previous coercive mechanisms of social control, MAS have been increasing their importance in a large number of Spanish organizations. The improvement of economic conditions during the period 1985-90, the entry of foreign multinationals and the profound social changes have helped to institutionalize MAS.
Based on a previous essay (Amat, 1992) which is further developed, this article explores the interactions between MAS and their organizational and social context in Spanish firms through the description and analysis of three companies. Since the analysis suggested in this technical note is based on the evidence of three case studies, its conclusions are exploratory in nature.Academic Area:Cost Accounting & Management Control
