As each of the ratios are explored their use in making company valuations across different sectors is shown. Students are then asked to make valuations for several companies using this method.
In addition a final exercise has been developed in which students have to make a company valuation using the discounted cash flow method as well as using the average PER and EV/EBITDA of the sector. This is an interactive multimedia case that details the acquisition of a Chinese company by a Spanish one. In the analysis certain variables are considered that apply to this international context.
After carrying out the valuation a simulator is presented that uses the Monte Carlo method to define the following variables: exchange rate country risk premium and sales. The value of the company and the profitability of the operation are obtained using a probabilistic method running a thousand iterations in which these three variables change following pre-established patterns.
The results of the equity and the profitability of the operation are presented in accordance with their associated probability through interactive charts and graphs.Academic Area:Finance

This case is designed to introduce students to the basic tools of supply and demand and to observe and predict how they operate in a real market that is constantly grabbing headlines: the global petroleum market. The analysis of this interactive multimedia case is based around those events that have affected the price of oil from 1970 to 2013.
Students will be presented with a series of historical events that affected the price of oil on the world market. They study each of these and then predict the effects on price by shifting the curves on the traditional supply and demand model.
The World Oil Prices interactive exercise has been used successfully across a range of masters programs, from Masters in Management through to MBA and executive programs. The Battle for Cortefiel DF1-107-I-M
This multimedia case presents the leveraged acquisition of the Spanish textile group Cortefiel. This acquisition is made by a capital risk fund that has developed a business plan that will attempt to create value through Cortefiel’s operations and this fund. At one point the operation is blocked due to other capital risk funds which are also interested in the group. Students have to analyze the business plan and decide whether or not to increase the price offered.
The case presents information about the Group and includes interviews with sector experts that participated in the operation. The last part lets students numerically solve the case carrying out all the sections of the business plan and analyzing if the price that they are paying for the stock should be increased or not.
