  1. Sky wars: The Airbus-Boeing controversy EC1-104-I

    This case is about the “war” between Boeing Co. and Airbus S.A.S., the most important aircraft manufacturers in the global market. They are accusing one another of receiving illegal financial support and have lodged a complaint with the WTO. 

    Students are given background information about each company, the aerospace industry in general and the dispute itself. They are also provided with a summary of the facts of the case where each company’s complaint is broken down. Lastly, they are given a text explaining the GATT/WTO prohibition on subsidies. Using all of this information, students must put themselves in the shoes of the WTO tribunal and make a decision about the case.

  2. Economic policy simulator EC1-022-I-M

    Beginning with the details of an unnamed country this interactive exercise lets students combine various economic policies to analyze their future impact (in the following two years) on the main macroeconomic indicators. The results and feedback given to students are expressed numerically and graphically.

    Students also have access to the results of the combination of policies used throughout the exercise so that they can be compared. Said results can be printed for subsequent discussion.

    As a result of globalization, companies are increasingly operating on an international scale and must therefore be prepared to operate in culturally diverse locations. One of the ways in which companies make their way out of their country is through the expatriation of employees. There are a number of factors that can influence whether the expatriate's adaptation process is more or less successful.

    The expatriation experience is a process that includes several phases: selection, training, adaptation and repatriation. Both the person and the company must know what these phases are and act appropriately in each of them to ensure the success of the expatriation.

    This case illustrates the evolution of the Chinese economy from 1949 to 2006, and the impact that economic development has had on its social structure.

    Starting with its acceptance into the WTO in 2001, the Chinese government has faced the challenge of maintaining GDP growth at moderate levels to avoid economic overheating. It also analyzes what where the differences between the public discourse of the government about this goal and its fiscal and monetary policies. It finally sheds some light to aid the reflexion around the sustainability of the Chinese economic miracle.
